Nathan Shepard was born in 1966 in Hanover, New Hampshire to artist parents. He studied at Bradford College and then at The Museum School, Boston where he studied oil painting, sculpture and art history, and spent time as artist in residence at the Vermont Studio Center.
Nathan discovered a love for mural painting in 1996 inspired by Artists such as Diego Rivera, Thomas Hart Benton, and his father, Bob Shepard's mural work.
Nathan's first of many trips to Mexico in the early '90's resulted in a period at the Instituto Allende, Guanajato, to further his study of mural painting.
In addition to his own murals Nathan paints landscapes and still life in gouache on paper, and oil and acrylic on board and canvas.
Nathan is always looking to explore the underlying spirit, history and nature of a place;whether it's the juniper trees on New Mexico, the dramatic coastline of Manchester-by-the-Sea, the vibrancy of Mexico or the landscape of his home island of Martha's Vineyard, he strives to capture the essence of Places he loves.
